______

Designed for knit fabrics, the Agnes cut out dress features modern cut outs at the sides of the bodice. If you’d rather sew the Agnes dress without cut outs, such a modification is explained in the sewing instructions.

You've got 3 sleeve options: sleeveless, dropped shoulders and long sleeves.

The skirt has a waistband with elastic, which isn’t tight over the belly, it mainly holds the dress in. The skirt can be sewn as an "easy skirt" or a 2-tier skirt with a wide flounce. A third option is to sew large topstitched pockets on the easy skirt.

I use a binding to finish the neckline and sleeveless variants, and the instructions show you both how to make the binding visible, and non-visible.

Finally, you can also sew the skirt as a separate skirt.

Skill level: 2/3 (Level guide).

YOU WILL NEED:

Knit fabric (light to medium weight) with at least 30% stretch, for example cotton jersey, viscose jersey, tencel jersey etc. You can use woven fabrics (without stretch) for the skirt and waistband since they have generous width over waist and hips.

* Estimated for an Agnes with a 2-tier skirt, and that all pattern pieces are sewn in the same fabric. The fabric requirements above is an estimation for 150 cm (60”) wide fabrics, not preshrunk. I recommend you to add 20 cm (8”) extra if you’re purchasing new fabric for this project. You should also account for shrinkage, and add extra if you want to pattern match.

Fabric for the binding: If you’re not using a binder attachment, use light-weight fabric. Stay away from thick fabrics such as ribbing and french terry. If you’ve got a binder attachment you can use ribbing or interlock.

Elastic, 2,5 cm wide, for the skirt’s waistband. Cut the elastic’s length based on the child’s waist measurements, even though you may be sewing another size. Remember that stretch and softness varies
between different elastic bands, you may want to make the elastic band 1 cm shorter, or longer. But I do recommend to aim for the same length as the child’s waist measurement.

Elastic, 5-6 mm wide, for the bodice’s cut outs and for the long sleeves. See length in chart above.

Optional: a small piece of fusible interfacing, for the pockets’ upper hem, for more stability. Use interfacing that is lighter than the fabric.

USEFUL TO HAVE:

Aqua glue marker, elastic threader (or safety pin), tape measure, fabric scissors, pins/clips, iron, sewing machine with coordinating thread. Don’t forget a suitable needle in the sewing machine. For knit fabrics a stretch needle is usually recommended.

Choose a size based primarily on the child’s height. If the child is between sizes, choose the larger one.
