The pattern that makes us long for summer! With Maja & Malte you’ll get comfy and cute shorts for boys and girls, all the way from size 74 to 152.

Variant A are shorts with a regular, elasticated waistband. They can be sewn in both short and long length. The long shorts end right above the knees.

Variant B are shorts with a paperbag waistband, also elasticated. They too can be made short or long.

For both variants you can add pockets if you’d like. The pattern includes both side seam pockets and back pockets.

The shorts are designed for knit fabrics with stretch, but they can also be beautifully sewn in fabrics without stretch if you size up.

Skill level: 1-2/3 (Level guide).

YOU WILL NEED:

Knit fabric with at least 30% stretch, preferably 4-way stretch (the fabric stretches horizontally and vertically). The fabric should be light to medium weight (approx. 135-270 gr/m2). I recommend for example jersey, french terry, ponte di roma, terry cloth and velour. Choose lightweight fabric for the side seam pockets.

You can also make the shorts in woven fabrics, for example: cotton, linen, seersucker, double gauze, viscose. Choose 1 size larger to make up for no stretch.

Elastic, for the waist. Length and width in the chart below.

USEFUL TO HAVE:

Aqua glue marker, elastic threader or safety pin, tape measure, fabric scissors, pins/clips, iron, a sewing machine with matching thread, as well as a suitable needle. For knit fabrics, a stretch needle is usually recommended, and for woven fabrics use a universal needle.

Choose size based on the child’s measurements in width: waist width and hip width. If the child’s height doesn’t correspond to the same size, I recommend that you lengthen/shorten or blend sizes. For example, if the child is 55 cm in waist width and 62 cm in hip width (size 110) but only 98 cm tall - choose size 110 and shorten the front and back to size 98. See the guide in the Instructions.

With the included Sewing Instructions you receive help from start to finish. It’s a solid and detailed description of each step in the making of this garment. It includes clear pictures, explanatory text and tips that will give the garment a professional look.
