______

Millie has a lined yoke, with beautiful gathering along the front and back blouse. The blouse is somewhat shorter in the front, and the back hem is rounded.

With Millie you can choose two different sleeves. Both bring lots of width. The long sleeve is my personal favourite, sewn with two tucks for an interesting detail and finished with a band.

The other sleeve has 3/4 length, it’s sewn with a narrow flounce and a band, a really nice detail.

The sewing instructions guide you through 2 ways of buttoning the back yoke. You can sew buttonholes and buttons, or a keyhole back with a single shank button.

Millie can be sewn on a regular home sewing machine, and if you’re choosing woven fabrics you can see different ways of finishing the seams, how about french seams? French seams are a great option if you don’t have an overlocker to finish the seams with.

Skill level: 2/3 (Level guide).

YOU WILL NEED:

- Light-weight fabric. Millie gets a voluminous look in crisp, stiff fabrics with body such as poplin, seersucker, double gauze, batiste and sheeting fabric. These fabrics are also generally easy to sew. How about using a pre-loved duvet cover for your blouse?

You can also choose to work with soft, drapey fabrics such as viscose, satin, crepe and chiffon, which will give Millie a more slim and fluid look. Note that this type of fabrics can be more challenging to work with due to being more fluid and/or shiny.

You can also sew in light-weight knit fabrics such as jersey (I primarily recommend tencel-, viscose- or bambu jersey, but cotton jersey works too).

- 3 buttons if you want to sew the back yoke’s closure with buttonholes and buttons. Recommended size: 10-15 mm in diameter.

- 1 shank button, 10 mm in diameter, if you’ve chosen to sew the keyhole back.

- Light-weight fusible interfacing, to stabilize the back yoke. I recommend Vlieseline H200 or H609. Generally the interfacing needs to be as light or lighter than the fabric.

USEFUL TO HAVE:

Tape measure, fabric scissors, pins/clips, steam iron, sewing machine with coordinating polyester thread.

Suitable needle for your fabric: For light-weight woven fabrics it’s usually recommended to use a universal needle, or a microtex needle. For knit fabrics, use a stretch needle. A general recommendation is to use needle size 70 for very light-weight fabrics and 80 for light-weight fabrics.

See the size guide among the pictures on this page.

Choose a size based on your largest body measurement, bust or waist. Compare with the finished measurements to get an idea of how Millie is designed to fit. Millie is a loose-fit blouse, somewhat short which will go beautifully with high-waisted bottoms. You can easily lengthen your Millie if you prefer a blouse with longer length.

Millie has been designed primarily for woven fabrics (without stretch), but it looks very beautiful in knit fabrics as well. If you choose a knit fabric with 30% stretch or more, you can size down 1 size. Also, you might want to shorten the sleeve’s cuff band (pieces 6, 8) a couple of cm.

Like all my other women’s patterns, Millie is designed for a B cup size. You can find your sewing cup size (not the same as bra cup size) by measuring your upper bust and full bust. If full bust minus upper bust is 5 cm (2”), you have a B cup. Read more on my website.
