______

Olivia is an adorable dress, perfect for twirling thanks to the circle skirt, and with beautiful details in the back. For the buttons in the back you can sew buttonholes and buttons, or use snap buttons.

The pattern provides you with the options to sew the back skirt piece somewhat longer than the front, or the same length. You can also choose long, short or ¾ length sleeves.

The pattern also includes a version of a tunic. Then the button placket extends all the way through the back, but you could choose for example to put buttons only on the top half for a summery version. For the tunic, you can also sew cute pockets to the front.

Skill level: 1-2/3 (Level guide).

Fabric: Light to medium weight knit fabrics, for example jersey, with at least 30% stretch. Heavier fabric such as french terry can also be used.

This is an estimate of how much fabric you’ll need, based on fabrics with 160 cm width (63”).

Fusible interfacing with stretch for the neckline. It must have stretch, this is very important for a good result. The interfacing should also be slightly lighter than the main fabric.

Fusible non-stretch interfacing, or woven fabric, for the button placket. It should be non-stretch since it’s purpose is to stabilize the button holes.

Buttons. Their size and quantity is up to you. The button placket is designed for buttons that are 15-25 mm (5/8” - 1”) wide. In this tutorial there’s a guide on how to modify the button placket if you want to use smaller or larger buttons. You could also use snap buttons.

Coordinating thread.

Choose a size based on your child’s chest measurement. The bodice has 3 cm
(1 1/4“) positive ease, which means that the finished garment will be 3 cm (1 1/4”) larger than the chest measurement of that size.

If the child is between sizes, we recommend that you choose the larger size. The tunic has the same chest width as the dress, but it flares out in an A-shape.
